An Affair to Remember
The shimmering Mediterranean stretches out behind the SS Constitution as it makes its way from Europe to New York. Aboard, famed playboy Nickie Ferrante, portrayed by Cary Grant, basks in the attention of admiring eyes, his charm as boundless as the ocean itself. Yet, his gaze lingers not on the star-struck debutantes, but on Terry McKay, a captivating woman played by Deborah Kerr, seemingly immune to his allure. Both are engaged, Terry to the steadfast Kenneth Bradley, and Nickie to the wealthy Lois Clark. Amidst the backdrop of opulent dinners and starlit dances, an undeniable connection sparks between Nickie and Terry. As the ship approaches its destination, they make a daring pact: to meet atop the Empire State Building in six months, a promise laden with risk, societal expectations, and the potential for true love, or utter heartbreak. Will they both be brave enough to change their lives and meet?

Storyline
On a transatlantic cruise from Europe to New York, the charming and notorious playboy Nickie Ferrante, engaged to the wealthy Lois Clark, finds himself drawn to Terry McKay, who is also engaged to Kenneth Bradley. Their connection deepens amidst the romantic backdrop of Italy, where Nickie introduces Terry to his beloved Grandmother Janou, a woman whose wisdom and grace leave a lasting impression on Terry. Fully aware of their existing commitments, Nickie and Terry agree to meet atop the Empire State Building in six months’ time, promising to leave their respective partners and start a new life together if their feelings remain unchanged. Nickie, inspired by Terry’s encouragement, vows to make a name for himself as a painter, while Terry prepares to break off her engagement. However, fate takes a tragic turn when Terry, rushing to meet Nickie, is struck by a car, leaving her unable to walk. Unwilling to burden Nickie with her disability, Terry keeps her accident a secret. Months pass, and Nickie, unaware of Terry’s accident, waits at the Empire State Building, his hopes slowly turning to disappointment and a lingering sense of betrayal. Finally, months later, Nickie seeks out Terry, only to discover her in a weakened state. He is devastated to learn the truth and witnesses Terry confined to her bed. The film culminates in an emotionally charged moment when Nickie shows Terry his paintings, one of which is a scene of her grandmother’s house, he then realizes she is the painter he heard about that was injured.
